Tips For Driving Safely With Children

Updated: Feb 23, 2023

The American Automobile Association found that drivers spend more than half their time involved in other actions than driving. Distracted driving is a constant problem here in Alabama and throughout the country. When there are children occupying the car, the number of concerns to juggle is alarming. Below are tips for driving safely with children.

Keep the Children Busy

Watching a movie or playing music in the car are ways to keep children entertained. No matter how long the trip is, drivers should make sure that the volume is never too loud. Also, the use of activities such as books, puzzles, coloring books, and board/card games are also helpful. The main issue parents need to do is find activities that are age-appropriate and best for keeping children busy.

Taking Several Breaks Is Important

With long trips, parents should take several breaks and have their children run around and be active to burn off energy. A good reason for this is that the children become tired and sleep. If you can, having another adult in the car to simmer the children down and help with their needs would be beneficial. This is very important when driving with a baby. The baby should be given toys or a bottle to play with, but if he or she begins crying, drivers may need to pull over.
